Oribi Animal Clinic is a first opinion companion animal practice located in Jeffreys Bay.  Most of our patients are dogs, cats and horses, but we also have experience with birds and exotic species such as rabbits, rats, snakes, and marmosets etc. We understand that all these little creatures are members of your family, and our aim is to provide a caring, professional service in a friendly environment to our patients and their humans.

Chronic Medication Prescriptions

Medications can only be dispensed for a maximum of 30 days. Repeats can be given for 6 months in total, with an obligatory consultation every 6 months. This is to ensure that your pet’s health has not changed and to adjust doses or change medication if necessary. You are welcome to phone us for your pet’s once a month chronic medication order for up to 6 months and we can get it ready for collection. If there is any concern regarding your pet’s health, then it is advisable to make an appointment to bring your pet for re-evaluation as soon as possible.

What We Do

Puppy & Adolescent Classes

Oribi Animal Clinic recommends puppy classes for all puppies from the age of 12 weeks or once they’ve had their second vaccination. These classes are an excellent way to socialise your puppy with other dogs and humans and also provides a wealth of information on topics such as feeding, housetraining, obedience training and certain behavioural issues. They are also run by Jo-Anne Richter who is a qualified behaviourist registered with SABCAP (South African Board Of Companion Animal Professionals).

Weight Clinic

With animals, as with humans, obesity can lead to or aggravate a number of health problems such as diabetes, heart disease and joint disease. Oribi Animal Clinic offers a free weight clinic to all our clients, run by Jo-Anne Richter. If you are concerned that your pet may be overweight, or if the vet has recommended weight loss for medical reasons, please contact her at (042) 293 1320 for more information or to set up an appointment.

Prescriptions

Oribi Animal Clinic dispenses drugs and medications in line with the legal requirements of the Medicines and Related Substances Control Act (Act 101) of 1965.

Certain drugs cannot be dispensed over the counter, but must be prescribed by a veterinarian to an animal under his/ her care. Medications can only be dispensed for a maximum of 30 days. Some chronic medications can be given on repeat prescriptions, but the patient does need to be examined every 3 to 6 months to ensure that there are no unwanted side effects and that the disease is being treated/ controlled as desired. You are welcome to phone us for your pet’s once a month chronic medication order for up to 6 months and we can get it ready for collection if your pet is a patient at our clinic. If there is any concern regarding your pet’s health, then it is advisable to make an appointment to bring your pet for re-evaluation as soon as possible. According to law no credit can be given for dispensed drugs.

Veterinarian

Dr Elmien Kotze

Dr Elmien Kotze qualified from the Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of Pretoria in 2006. She is mostly kept busy caring for wildlife and her meticulous attention to her work ensures only the best service for her wildlife veterinary operations. Dr Elmien consults at Oribi Animal Clinic every 3rd weekend and stands in when one of our other vets are on leave. Apart from her work as a veterinarian she enjoys spending time with her friends and her many four-legged children.

Dr Darren Glanville

Dr Darren Glanville is one of the veterinarians at Oribi Animal Clinic and qualified from the Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of Pretoria in 1993. He spent some time working in the United Kingdom and in Bermuda before returning to South Africa. He has extensive experience in small animal surgery and horses. When not at the hospital he can be found at the beach or enjoying nature with his kids and his dogs. He has every intention of learning to surf!

Dr Vanessa Faber

Dr Vanessa qualified from the Szént István University in Budapest in 2014. Dr. Vanessa joined the Oribi Team in February 2020 and is currently busy with her MSc in Wildlife Management, Ecology and Health. Her interests are all things veterinary and animal health, from wildlife medicine to small animal internal medicine to livestock and horses.
In her free time, she trains for triathlons, goes fishing, or is outdoors in general with her friends.

Animal Health Technician

Emma-Lisa Lok

Emma-Lisa qualified from UNISA as an Animal Health Technician in 2016. In the years leading up to her studies she worked and volunteered at various wildlife sanctuaries in South Africa. She assists with the general care of the patients entrusted to our care and is the practice manager. In her free time, she enjoys being outdoors with her family and 3 dogs.

Behaviourist & Veterinary Assistant

Jo-Anne Richter

Jo-Anne joined Oribi Animal Clinic in August 2015. A qualified Animal Behaviourist and Equestrian, she also has a wealth of experience in the nursing and care of animal patients. She is our in-house Puppy School Manager and trainer. She completed a Small Animal Nursing Diploma Level 4 in 2016.

John Tilese

John joined Oribi Animal Clinic in May 2011. He helps the vets with the animals in the hospital, makes sure that they are always comfortable and ensures that the practice is clean and hygienic. His sense of humour on a daily basis keeps everyone smiling and nobody will ever find him down.

Thompson Dasa

Thompson was born to work with animals and joined Oribi Animal Clinic in December 2011. He assists in the hospital with x-rays, the sterilisation of surgical instruments and the handling and care of our patients. No matter the day, he always brings a smile and a friendly atmosphere to our clinic.

Lizett Muller

Lizett worked at Oribi Animal Clinic for a while in 2013. Sadly she left us when her husband got a job in Bethlehem, but fortunately she returned to Jeffreys Bay in 2017 and re-joined the Oribi team. Lizett shares our passion for animals, but with an enormous heart for people she makes any visitor feel welcome. She is known as the Oribi Koeksister Queen.  

Receptionist

Nicolet Kramer

Nicolet joined the Oribi team in January 2020. After working at Nedbank for eleven years she decided it was time for a new challenge and applied for the reception position at Oribi. In her free time, she enjoys baking and spoiling her kids with these homemade treats. Her family also consists of four cats and three dogs that she spends much of her time with outside of work.
